About Us

The Friends were formed over 60 years ago to promote, support and assist the improvement of the CIty of Salford museums and galleries in co-operation with their management and staff. They are independent and managed by a committee of volunteers.

As an example of their work, the Friends are proud to have supported the loan of the Radclyffe Bed from Antoun Sehnaoui and its installation at Ordsall Hall.

This year, they  have financially supported the Museum and Ordsall Hall by purchasing:

  • Set of six rare Walter Crane Pilkington Tiles
  • Christmas trees and decorations
  • Various items for the Local History Library and archives
  • Uniforms for volunteers at Ordsall Hall
  • Lavender and Oak saplings at Ordsall Hall
  • Support to new events such as Zoolab and Life Drawing classes

The Friends arrange talks and visits to other museums and previews of exhibitions as well as heritage talks at the museums.  The Friends warmly welcome new members.  By joining you will be supporting Salford’s heritage and also receive a newsletter three times a year with varied articles of local interest and details of past and forthcoming events.

To join the Friends (or to renew your membership), please visit This Page.  Annual Subscription remains at only £10 per member and this entitles you to receive a 10% discount in the cafe and gift shop at both sites.
